Shubman Gill finished as the highest run-scorer in the ENG vs IND test series.

Indian skipper Shubman Gill has shown a wonderful form with the bat in the ongoing test series between England and India. However, he failed to score a big knock in the fifth test at The Oval, London, getting out for 21 runs and 11 runs in both innings.

With 754 runs in 10 innings at an average of 75.40, Gill ended the series as the leading run-scorer. He also slammed four centuries across five games, including a double ton (269) in the second test at Edgbaston.

Notably, Gill had a wonderful opportunity to break Sunil Gavaskar’s 54-year-old record during The Oval test. However, he failed to go past it. During a test series against the West Indies in 1971, batting legend Gavaskar slammed 774 runs, setting the record for most runs by an Indian batsman in a test series.

Shubman Gill broke Sunil Gavaskar’s record for most runs by an Indian skipper in The Oval test

Notably, in the first innings of The Oval test, Gill broke Gavaskar’s record for most runs by an Indian skipper in a test series. Gavaskar scored 732 runs while leading India in a test series against the West Indies in 1978-79.

Gill also broke Yashasvi Jaiswal’s (712) record of most runs by an Indian batsman in a test series against England. Jaiswal had achieved the feat during the home test series against England in 2024.

Meanwhile, Gill was dismissed by Gus Atkinson in second session on day three. In the second innings, India have crossed 225 runs for four wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century in the second innings while Akash Deep hit a fifty.

Earlier, India were bowled out for 224 runs in the first innings with a half-century by Karun Nair (57). England piled up 247/10 in the first innings, earning a lead of 23 runs.
