The year 2023 has been a fantastic one for Indian opener Shubman Gill. Gill has gone past 50 runs, 11 times this year in his 23 innings. Gill has been top-performer for team India and also made his entry in the ODI double centurion list. Shubman Gill has touched another career milestone and broken a record with his short 26-run knock against New Zealand at HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala. After a decent start, Gill lost his wicket against Lockie Ferguson.

Indian opening batter Shubman Gill has become the fastest batter in the world to complete the 2000 ODI runs milestone. Gill has overtaken former South African opener Hashim Amla in his short, record-breaking innings. Shubman Gill needed 14 runs to complete this milestone and break the record of Hashim Amla, who completed 2000 ODI runs in 40 ODI innings. Shubman Gill is two innings quicker than South African and completed his 2000 runs in just 38 innings.

Former South African opener Hashim Amla was also a consistent run-scorer in ODI cricket, and he went on to score 8113 runs in his ODI career in 178 innings. Out of 2000, Shubman Gill has only scored 1350 runs this year. Apart from Gill and Amla, few other names have touched this milestone in fewer than 45 innings. Shubman Gill made his ODI debut in 2019 when India traveled to New Zealand for a full-fledged tour. Shubman Gill had a poor start to his ODI career and scored nine runs in the first innings and seven in the second. Gill played his next ODI after 18 months and played his third ODI in December 2020. After that, he made roaring comeback in July 2022, and since then, he has been a consistent performer for India in the ODI format. Gill has smashed six ODI centuries and 10 half-centuries in 37 ODI innings, he has scored at an average of 64.06 in 37 ODI innings.
