ENG vs IND: Low for Shubman Gill! Joins Virat Kohli to become only the fourth Indian captain to achieve this unwanted feat in test cricket

Shubman Gill was named India’s test captain ahead of the five-match test tour of England.
The fifth test between England Cricket Team and Indian Cricket Team commenced on Thursday, July 31, at The Oval, London. Ollie Pope, who is the stand-in skipper for the hosts, won the toss and opted to bowl first in the encounter. This was the fifth straight time that Shubman Gill lost the toss in the ongoing series.
With this, Shubman Gill has now become the fourth Indian captain to lose toss in all matches of a five-match test series. Earlier, former Indian captains Lala Amarnath, Kapil Dev and Virat Kohli had registered this unwanted record.
During a home test series against the West Indies in 1948-49, Lala Amarnath lost the toss in all five games. The visitors won the series 1-0. During an away test series against the West Indies in 1982-83, Kapil Dev lost all five tosses to the Caribbean skipper Clive Lloyd. West Indies won the series 2-0.
Virat Kohli lost all five tosses against Joe Root during India’s tour of England 2018. England clinched a 4-1 victory in the five-match series.

In the ongoing fifth test at The Oval, Gill broke Sunil Gavaskar’s record of scoring most runs by an Indian captain in a bilateral test series. Meanwhile, Ollie Pope is leading England in The Oval test after Ben Stokes was ruled out of the game with a shoulder injury. England lead the series 2-1.
