Jasprit Bumrah was rested for the second test at Edgbaston.
Indian Cricket Team crushed England Cricket Team by 336 runs in the second test at Edgbaston in Birmingham to level the five-match test series 1-1. After the victory, Indian skipper Shubman Gill revealed whether Jasprit Bumrah will be back for the third test at the Lord’s or not.
Bumrah was not part of the Indian XI for the Edgbaston test. He was rested to manage his workload in the series. The right-arm pacer clinched a five-wicket haul in the opening test at Headingley in Leeds, which England won by five wickets.
Meanwhile, in his absence, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep did a wonderful job at Edgbaston, picking 17 wickets combined. Indian skipper Shubman Gill won Player of the Match award in the second test. The right-handed batsman slammed a double century and a century in the match to set the platform for India’s victory.
Shubman Gill confirms Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback in third test at the Lord’s
During the post-match presentation, Gill revealed that Bumrah will return for the third test at the Lord’s. Notably, he had also mentioned during the toss on day one that Bumrah would be back for the next game.
“Definitely. (On Bumrah’s return at Lord’s.). Very excited for that. Probably the most iconic cricket stadium in the world and as a kid everyone dreams about playing there and I think no bigger honour than to be able to captain your country and lead your team there”, he said.
Bumrah’s replacement, Akash Deep, came up with a brilliant show in the Edgbaston test. The right-arm pacer picked up a ten-wicket haul in the match. Gill also heaped praises on Akash after the match.
“Akash Deep bowled with so much heart. The areas and lengths he hit, he was getting the ball to move both ways. On wickets like these, it’s difficult to do that, he was just magnificent for us,” Gill said.
Meanwhile, India scripted history in the second test by winning their first-ever test match against England at Edgbaston. The third test will begin from July 10.
