Shubman Gill missed the 1st IND vs NZ test in Bengaluru due to stiff neck.

New Zealand have started the three-match test series with a historic win in Bengaluru. The eight-wicket triumph at M. Chinnswamy Stadium marks the first test win for the Kiwis on Indian soil in 36 years, and their third overall.

India, after winning the toss and opting to bat first on a moist Bengaluru wicket, suffered a horror batting collapse as they got bundled out for just 46 runs. The Indian innings saw five batsmen getting dismissed for a duck.

New Zealand backed their excellent bowling performance in the first innings with an equally clinical batting performance, taking a 356-run lead. Rachin Ravindra was the star of the show for the Kiwis, scoring an excellent ton.

The Indian second innings saw the Asian Giants put up a massive fightback, cutting down the huge deficit with the loss of just three wickets. However, a batting collapse against the second new ball saw the Indian innings get wrapped up for 462, giving New Zealand a target of 107 runs.

Chasing down the target, New Zealand survived the opening spell of Jasprit Bumrah to complete a comprehensive eight-wicket win.

The Indian team was without their regular No.3, Shubman Gill, in this match as he had a stiff neck. Sarfaraz Khan got an opportunity and grabbed it with both hands by making 150 in the second innings.

After the completion of the first test, Shubman was seen practising in the nets at the centre pitch at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. This is a huge indication that the right-hander could feature in the 2nd test in Pune.

India would hope for a better performance in the second test match of the series at Pune. With the defeat in the first game, the second test is now a do-or-die game for the Indian team. India would look to carry forward the grit shown in their second innings to the rest of the series.
