Shubman Gill was the Man of the Series award winner against England recently.
Shubman Gill has taken hold of the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI batsman ranking for the second time in his career.
The talented Indian opener was in tremendous form recently in the ODI series against England, and he’s been rewarded with the numero uno position in the latest ICC ODI batsman ranking, released on the opening day of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Gill helped India whitewash England 3-0 with scores of 87, 60 and 112, finishing as the leading run-scorer in the series. He scored 259 runs at an average of 86 and a strike rate of 103. No other batsman in the series scored more than 200 runs.
This is the second time that Gill has climbed to the summit of the ICC ODI batsman ranking – he achieved it for the first time during his career during the World Cup 2023.
This time, Gill displaced Babar Azam to claim this spot. The Indian opener has 796 rating points, while the former Pakistan captain has 773 rating points. Both will be competing for the position during the Champions Trophy as well.
Following Gill and Babar are Rohit Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Daryl Mitchell.
Maheesh Theekshana becomes new No. 1 ODI bowler
There is a new No. 1 ICC ODI bowler too as Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana replaced Rashid Khan to claim the top spot in the ODI bowling ranking.
Theekshana rose to his position on the back of his match-winning four-wicket haul against Australia in Colombo. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan hasn’t played ODI cricket since December last year but he will have the opportunity to grab back the No. 1 ranking in the Champions Trophy, for which Sri Lanka failed to qualify.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi maintained his position as the No. 1 ICC ODI all-rounder.
