Shubman Gill won Player of the Match award in 2nd ENG vs IND test.

Indian Cricket Team defeated England Cricket Team in second test of the five-match series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 at Edgbaston, Birmingham by a huge margin of 336 runs. India also scripted history by winning their first test at the venue.

Indian skipper Shubman Gill won Player of the Match award for his outstanding batting show in the encounter. The right-handed batsman smacked a double century (269) in the first innings to power the team to 587/10. In the second innings, he slammed another century (161) to help India set a target of 608 runs for the hosts.

The Ben Stokes & Co. succumbed to India’s bowling attack in the second innings during the chase. Akash Deep picked a six-wicket haul to bowl out England for 271. The right-arm pacer captured 10 wickets in the clash, including a four-wicket haul in the first innings.

Feeling comfortable with my game: Shubman Gill after winning POTM award in Edgbaston test

During the post-match presentation, Indian skipper Shubman Gill noted that India came up with a brilliant bowling and fielding show in the encounter.

“All the things we spoke about after the first game, we were spot on with all of those things. Our bowling and fielding was tremendous to see. On this kind of wicket, we knew if we get 400-500 on this kind of wicket, we’ll be in the game. Not everytime we’re going to drop that many catches that we did in Headingley,” said Gill after the match.

“The fast bowlers were magnificent and I think the way we were able to get through the top-order, that was important to us, and both those bowlers bowled brilliantly and even Prasidh, he didn’t get as many wickets as them, but he also bowled brilliantly. Akash Deep bowled with so much heart. The areas and lengths he hit, he was getting the ball to move both ways. On wickets like these, it’s difficult to do that, he was just magnificent for us,” he added.

Gill further talked about his batting and said he is comfortable with his own game.

“I’d say I’m feeling comfortable with my game, hopefully if we win the series with my contributions, I’ll feel happier. Everyday is a learning curve for me. Whenever I go out there, I’ve said this before, I just want to play as a batsman and I want to think as a batsman and I want to make my decisions and risk management as a batsman. Sometimes when you are out there and thinking as a captain, you don’t take that risks which I think as a batsman sometimes is necessary,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the five-match test series is levelled 1-1 after India’s victory in the second game. Earlier, England won the first test by five wickets. Now, both teams will clash with each other in the third test at Lord’s. The encounter will commence on July 10.
