Shubman Gill can be player of this era, predicts Yuvraj Singh

Shubman Gill had spent a lot of time with Yuvraj Singh before his international debut.
Indian opener Shubman Gill has stunned everyone with his consistency in ODI format. Gill has been India’s most prolific run-scorer in 2023. He has smashed 10 fifty-plus scores in his 20 ODI innings this year and made himself an integral part of the Indian playing XI as an opener. Him opening along with Rohit Sharma has done exceedingly well for team India in the ODIs. Now he is set to make his World Cup debut against Australia in Chennai.
Before his entry into the big World Cup, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh made a huge statement on youngsters' career. Yuvraj Singh has predicted that Shubman Gill can go on to become the ‘Player of this era’ in cricket. The 2011 World Cup winner has seen Shubman Gill grow from a very young age as he has spent a lot of time with the youngster before Gill made his international debut for India.
Yuvraj Singh predicts Gill's future
Yuvraj Singh while talking to the Week has said, “Shubman Gill has the potential to become the best player of this generation. That guy works hard, since he was 19-20, and his attitude has always been like that. He works four times harder than a normal guy since he was a kid. Whatever I have worked with him, he can be a player of this era.” Shubman Gill has been the most consistent figure in the current India setup with 5 centuries in ODIs in 2023.
Yuvraj Singh also recalled Shubman Gill’s gritty 91 run innings against Australia in his debut test series down under. Yuvi added, “He scored 91 in a test match which India won he scored two fifties as well on his first tour to Australia which I don’t know how many players I have done. I am sure he will score runs in Australia, South Africa as well as in England.” Yuvraj also suggested that Gill could be a game-changer for India.
Shubman Gill has played 35 ODIs so far in his career. He made his ODI debut against New Zealand in 2020. Gill has scored 1917 runs in his 35 ODI innings at an average of 66.10 and smashed 6 centuries. Gill has got an ODI double century as well as a T20I century in his career. He is just 83 runs away from scoring 2000 runs in ODIs, that he will look to complete against Australia in Chennai on 8th October.
