Shubman Gill has been appointed as the test captain of the Indian Cricket Team.
The forthcoming India A match against the England Lions in Northampton, which begins on June 6, will not feature Gujarat Titans’ (GT) Sai Sudharsan or India’s new test captain, Shubman Gill. KL Rahul has made the decision to go to England ahead of time in order to get some red-ball practice in place of them.
Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill were set to participate in India A’s second and final unofficial test match against the England Lions in Northampton, according to a previous statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Sudharsan had a fantastic IPL 2025 season. With a remarkable average of 54.21 and 759 runs in 15 games, he is presently the Orange Cap holder. In the IPL 2025, he scored one hundred and six half-centuries for GT.
On the other hand, Shubman Gill also had a successful batting campaign. Six fifties were among the 650 runs the GT captain amassed at an average of 50.00.
Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill were allowed rest by the BCCI ahead of the hectic England test tour
However, following their busy IPL 2025 season with GT, they have now been rested from the India A match.
However, Gill and Sai Sudharsan will now accompany the main team when they arrive in England on June 6, according to information obtained by ESPNcricinfo. However, KL Rahul, who joined the India A team on Tuesday, is anticipated to feature in the Lions match.
“Both Sai and Gill have been training with the red ball recently. After a long IPL season, they need some rest and recovery,” a Times of India report stated.
Gill, Sai, and the rest of the Indian squad will only get red-ball match practice during a four-day intra-squad game against India A in Beckenham on June 13-16, before the five-match test series opening in Leeds on June 20.
Following the series opener in Leeds, the second test will be held at Edgbaston, Birmingham, from July 2 to 6. The series then continues to the legendary Lord’s Cricket Ground in London for the third test, which is set for July 10-14. The fourth test is scheduled for July 23–27 at Old Trafford in Manchester, while the series will end with the fifth and final test at The Oval in London from July 31–August 4.
