Shubman Gill has not played a match since suffering neck sprain in the Kolkata test.
India T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill is likely to be part of the five-match T20I series against South Africa that begins on December 9. Gill has been out of action since suffering a neck sprain during the first Test between India and South Africa that was played in Kolkata.
He had to retire hurt after spraining his neck while playing three balls in India’s first innings. He was momentarily hospitalized in Kolkata. Despite being discharged the next day, he continued to experience difficulty, ruling him out of the final Test and ODI series.

He is currently recovering from a neck sprain at the Centre of Excellence (COE). He recently finished an unlimited batting practice, and his problems did not flare up.
Shubman Gill to be picked in the Indian squad for South Africa T20Is
Gill is thought to have satisfied CoE managers with his fitness progress, and he could receive the all-clear soon.
He batted for an extended period of time at the CoE without showing any signs of pain in the previous several days. The selectors, it is known, want to know not just if he can bat but also whether he can field. The inference is that Gill, who is still at the CoE, has checked off both boxes.
The squad for the forthcoming five-match series has yet to be revealed, although Shubman Gill is anticipated to play. While it is unclear which game will mark his return, his chances of appearing in the series are high, especially given his role as vice-captain in the buildup to next year’s World Cup.
The team announcement is likely in the next few days, possibly as early as Wednesday (December 3). Gill is scheduled to join the squad in Bhubaneswar on December 7, and even if he is unable to play in the series opener in Cuttack, he is expected to be ready for the other matches on December 11 (New Chandigarh), 14 (Dharamsala), 17 (Lucknow), and 19 (Ahmedabad).
