Shubman Gill recently captained India to a 2-2 draw against England in the test series.
Indian test team captain and ODI vice-captain Shubman Gill is not assured of his place in the Men in Blue T20I squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. The tournament will be played in the UAE from September 9-29 and will be played in T20I format.
Gill, a 25-year-old batter for Punjab, has finally begun to demonstrate his full potential in international cricket and has put up some outstanding performances.
He is, without a doubt, one of the top hitters in world cricket right now and one of the few players who is predicted to be a future superstar in every version of the game.
Gill was just named India’s test captain following the retirement of Rohit Sharma, and he is also expected to succeed Rohit as ODI captain.
However, reports have stated that Shubman Gill might not find a place in India’s T20I squad because, reportedly, the T20I team is well set, with no room for him.
Shubman Gill might not make it into India’s T20I XI

In T20 cricket, Shubman Gill is a formidable batsman. Over the last three seasons, he has amassed 650, 426, and 890 runs for the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In 21 Twenty20 International matches, he has also amassed 578 runs for India at a strike rate of 139.27 and an average of 30.42. Gill is the fastest Indian player to reach 100 runs in all three international cricket formats and has scored a century for India in Twenty20 Internationals.
Given that Gautam Gambhir values continuity and players like Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Tilak Varma haven’t done anything wrong, Gill may have trouble getting into what is considered a “set team,” according to the most recent report in RevSportz.
“Sources close to developments say that Sanju Samson has scored three hundreds in his last 10 T20Is and has done well as an opener. It wouldn’t be fair to push him down the order and accommodate Gill.
Abhishek Sharma is the number-one-ranked T20 batter in the world, while Tilak Varma is the second-ranked batter. India, under Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav, has sought to give clarity and continuity to the players. In fact, even Gill had spoken about continuity in England in the red-ball format and that’s what could now be a feature of Indian cricket going forward,” the report written by veteran journalist Boria Majumdar read.
Despite Gill’s excellent IPL record, the report stated that IPL performances aren’t the criteria for selection, and the inclusion of Gill in the playing XI would be an injustice to the other performers.
