Shubman Gill hits his 6th century of his ODI career.
On September 24, 2023, India and Australia faced off in the second one-day international of the three-match series at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. And Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer starred with the bats.
India have a 1-0 series advantage after winning the opening ODI on September 22 in Mohali.
Australian captain Steve Smith elected to bowl first after winning the toss. Jasprit Bumrah also missed the game as India continued to rest Mohammed Siraj. Prasidh Krishna was added to strengthen the team’s fast-bowling unit. On the other hand, Australia disclosed that Steve Smith will lead the team while Pat Cummins is rested for this game. Spencer Johnson received his ODI debut as well.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood for 8 runs, but soon after, Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill joined forces and started to completely dominate the Australian bowling. The duo added 200 runs for the second wicket in almost no time, as the Australian bowlers had no answers for their assault.
Shreyas Iyer fell for 105 runs, his third century in ODIs and his first since coming back into Indian team after a long layoff due to a back injury and surgery.
Shubman Gill continues his purple patch in ODIs, scores brilliant 104 runs
Shubman Gill was at his best, and he might have missed an opportunity to score a century in Mohali, getting out in an easy chase. But this time, he was not going to miss out. He was dominating Australian bowling as he reached his 50 in 37 balls and continued the assault.
Gill reached his sixth ODI century in just 92 balls and was looking good for a big one. But he perished in trying to up a big score and was out for 104 runs.
The fans and members of the cricket fraternity were all in praise for Shubman Gill, who became the first batter to score 1900 runs after 35 ODI innings.
