Shubman Gill said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli bring a lot of experience to Indian Team.

Following the test series victory against the West Indies, Indian Cricket Team captain Shubman Gill is all set to lead the side in the ODI series against Australia. The series will also witness the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to the Indian team after a long gap of seven months. Not only this, it will also mark the beginning of new era as this will Gill’s first series as the ODI captain, replacing Rohit.

With the Australia series around the corner, Gill said that the team is looking forward to seeing Rohit and Kohli perform well against Australia. The duo had a good time with the bat in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and their experience will be the key in the upcoming series.

On October 14 (Tuesday), Shubman Gill & Co. outplayed West Indies in the second test by seven wickets to claim a clean sweep in the two-match series. Gill hammered a crucial unbeaten century in first innings of the second test, which took place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

During a conversation with Star Sports after the game, Gill heaped praise on Rohit and Kohli, saying that they bring a lot of experience to the Indian team. He also said the team is excited for the ODI series against Australia.

“They’ve been playing for India for the past 10–15 years and winning matches for us. The experience that they bring to the table is something every captain or every team wants. And that’s what we are looking forward to. We just want them to go out there and do their magic,” he said.

“We’ve been playing some of the best ODI cricket in the past two or three years, and nothing changes for us. It’s more or less the same team that we’re playing. So, very excited to go out there and play in Australia,” he added.

Speaking about the test series win against the West Indies, the right-handed batsman hailed India’s performance in all three departments across both games.

“Definitely, a very pleasing feeling. I think the way we played in both matches in all departments was commendable. We turned it around pretty nicely. In terms of batting, I’m really enjoying my time out there and not really thinking too much about expectations, pressure, and all of those things. I just want to go out there and enjoy what I’ve been doing since I was a kid,” he said.

Meanwhile, the three-match ODI series between India and Australia will begin on October 19 with the opening game at Perth Cricket Stadium in Perth. The next two games will take place on October 23 and 25. India will also face Australia in five T20I games from October 29 to November 8, where Gill will serve as deputy to captain Suryakumar Yadav.
