Usman Khawaja recorded his test career’s maiden double century in the 1st SL vs AUS test in Galle.

Batting records tumbled for Australia and Usman Khawaja in the first SL vs AUS test in Galle as the left-hander notched up his maiden test double century to pile up more misery on the Sri Lankans on day 2 of the match.

Steve Smith, the stand-in Aussie skipper, won the toss on day 1 and elected to bat first. On a pitch that offered considerable turn, Australian batsmen have batted brilliantly.

Travis Head smashed 57 off 40 balls before Smith and Khawaja tormented the hosts’ bowlers through their partnership of 266 runs off 419 balls.

At the end of day 1 in Galle, Khawaja was 147* and Smith was 104*. While Smith got out for 141 on day 2, Khawaja kept batting on and reached his first double century in test cricket.

This was not just Khawaja’s maiden test double hundred, but this is the first time an Australian batsman registered a double century in Sri Lanka. This also means that Khawaja now holds the record for the highest score by an Australian batsman in test cricket in Sri Lanka.
