Smriti Mandhana becomes fifth batter to cross 5000 runs in Women's ODI cricket

Smriti Mandhana achieved the milestone during the clash against Australia in ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
India Women opener Smriti Mandhana came up with a marvellous knock in the clash against Australia Women on Sunday, October 12, in ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. The left-handed batter slammed her 33rd fifty in the clash, which is underway at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
After struggling with her form in the initial three games, Mandhana made a strong comeback in the tournament against Australia, playing an innings of 80 runs off 66 deliveries with nine boundaries and three sixes. Coming into the game, she was under lot of pressure as her scores read 8, 23, and 23, but she delivered when it mattered.
After Australia Women opted to bowl first in the encounter, openers Pratika Rawal (75) and Mandhana (80) provided India with a strong start, stitching an opening stand of 155 runs. They slammed Australian bowlers all over the park and made them look completely helpless.
Smriti Mandhana reaches 5000 runs in WODIs

With her brilliant innings, Mandhana achieved a brilliant record. She became fifth batter to score over 5000 runs in WODIs and is also the only second Indian Women batter to reach the landmark. The other four batters in the list are Mithali Raj, Charlotte Edwards, Suzie Bates, and Stafanie Taylor.

Smriti Mandhana shatters multiple records with her 80-run knock against Australia
Smriti Mandhana also became the fastest and youngest to reach 5000 runs in the WODIs as she achieved the feat her in 112th innings. Not only this, she also became the first batter in the history of women’s cricket to score over 1000 runs in WODIs in a calendar year. If this was not enough, she also is the first batter to register five consecutive 50+ scores against Australia in women’s 50-over cricket.
Ahead of ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, Mandhana grabbed a lot of limelight during the ODI series against Australia Women last month. Hitting two centuries and one half-century across three games, she won Player of the Series award. With 300 runs at a stunning average of 100.0, Mandhana finished as the highest run-scorer in the series, which India Women lost 2-1.
Meanwhile, India Women have won two games and lost one encounter so far in ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. They crushed Sri Lanka Women by 59 runs in their opening game and outplayed Pakistan Women by 88 runs in their next match. In their previous game against South Africa Women, they lost by three wickets in a nail-biting encounter.
