Smriti Mandhana achieved the feat during the clash against South Africa in ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.

Despite not being able to convert starts in the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, India Women opener Smriti Mandhana has been among runs in Women’s ODI this year. The left-hander has already slammed three hundreds and four half-centuries in Women’s 50-over cricket in this year and piled up over 950 runs at an average above 57.

Ahead of the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, Mandhana was at her absolute best in the three-match WODI series against Australia Women last month. With two centuries and one fifty across three games, the Indian opener smacked 300 runs at an average of 100. She was also adjudged Player of the Series for her wonderful batting show in the series, which India Women lost 2-1.

However, Mandhana has struggled to replicate her magical batting in the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 so far. Across three games, she has registered scores of 8, 23, and 23. However, despite her batting struggle in the tournament, she has achieved a marvellous record in Women’s ODIs.

During India Women’s third match of the tournament, which is underway against South Africa Women on Thursday, October 9, Mandhana scored 23 runs. However, she has scripted the record for scoring most runs in a calendar year in Women’s ODI cricket.

Mandhana now has 982 runs to her name across 17 WODIs in 2025. With 982 runs, she now holds the record for scoring most WODI runs in a calendar year, which was previously held by Australia’s Belinda Clarke, who hammered 970 runs in 1997. Laura Wolvaardt, Debbie Hockley, and Amy Satterthwaite come next in the list of batters with most WODI runs in a calendar year.
