James Coles became the most expensive player at The Hundred auction 2026.

The first-ever auction for the Hundred 2026 got concluded successfully. The two-day event was held at Piccadilly Lights in London on March 11-12. On the first day, the auction for the women’s competition took place, while the auction for the men’s edition took place on Thursday.

The lucrative event saw some record-breaking deals, and some big names failed to grab the attention of any franchise. There were more than 700 players putting their names in for the auction. Among those, only 243 players were shortlisted to feature at the men’s Hundred auction 2026.

All teams needed 14-16 players to build the team for the coming season, including pre-tournament retentions and direct signings. The 21-year-old all-rounder from Sussex, James Coles, made history and became the most expensive player in the Hundred auction 2026.

He earned a lucrative deal of £390,000 (approx. INR 4.81 crore), whereas former no. 1 T20I-ranked English opener Dawid Malan got no buyer. The players were auctioned in different categories. A total of 80 players ended with a deal at the Hundred auction 2026.

Apart from Coles, Jordan Cox (£300,000), Tom Curran (£260,000), and Adil Rashid (£250,000) also made headlines for some big deals. There were news circulating before the auction that Pakistani players might not get picked.

Hence, the names that became the topic of discussions were the Pakistani spin duo of Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq. Especially Abrar, who was signed by Kavya Maran’s co-owned Sunrisers Leeds, which is a sister franchise of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

But Abrar and Usman getting a deal ended all speculations. However, there were 12 other Pakistani players, including Haris Rauf, Saim Ayub, Naseem Shah, and Mohammad Nawaz, who went unsold at the Hundred auction 2026.

South African T20I captain Aiden Markram was the most expensive overseas player. He was signed by Manchester Super Giants for a price of £200,000.
