Sourav Ganguly cautions Team India before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly speaks about team India ahead of ICC Cricket World Cup.

India have lost multiple ICC events at a crucial time in the last 10 years. After the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 in England, India suffered defeats in the last four ICC tournaments they played. To end this ICC title drought, team India will be entering the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 under Rohit Sharma’s leadership. They finished among the top four in the previous two editions in Australia and England, respectively. With huge expectations around team India, former captain Sourav Ganguly has highlighted the problem India might face in the upcoming mega event in India.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly feels that India are favourites for the tournament, but problems might arise in team India’s big games. A little cautious about team India’s chances Sourav Ganguly tweeted, "Is #TeamIndia favourite because the World Cup is held in India or because we’re playing with strength and confidence, Virender Sehwag? Yes, we won against Australia in Australia and drew a series against England, but then we lost to them both in big match situations. I think we have a solid team and a big chance, but we do need to get back to our winning ways before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023." 

Team India are currently taking part in Asia Cup 2023, and fans were not impressed with their performance. The Indian top-order collapsed badly against Pakistan, and Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya had to take India out of crisis with a 138-runs partnership for the 5th wicket. Indian team also had below-average bowling against Nepal. Bowlers conceded 230 runs against an inexperienced batting-order. Even captain Rohit Sharma was disappointed with the team’s performance and warned team India of no complacency in the upcoming games. India will play Pakistan on September 10th.

Team India suffered a shocking defeat in the semi-finals against New Zealand at Old Trafford in Manchester after India’s top order collapsed poorly in last edition of World Cup. India lost the finals in the 2014 T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka, the 2017 Champions Trophy finals against Pakistan, and then in 2021 and 2023, two consecutive World Test Championship finals against New Zealand and Australia, respectively. India suffered a defeat against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2021 in Dubai. Team India will begin their campaign against Australia at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on October 8.
