SA vs AFG: South Africa playing XI vs Afghanistan, Match 42, ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 – Predicted
South Africa will face Afghanistan in match No. 42 of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Friday.
South Africa became only the second team to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. They have six wins under their belt but are coming off a humiliating defeat at the hands of Indian team. However, they will be looking to enter the semis with a good win in their last game.
South Africa will face Afghanistan in their last group match on Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This is a must-win game for Afghanistan, as they are looking to make it to the semis. But South Africa will be confident enough to win this one. Here we will talk about the predicted playing XI for South Africa against Afghanistan.
SA vs AFG: South Africa’s Predicted playing XI vs Afghanistan
1. Quinton de Kock (wk) :
Quinton de Kock is the leading run-scorer in the tournament and will look to score more runs on Friday. With 550 runs in the tournament, he has already scored four hundreds, and if he can score one more, he will equal Rohit Sharma’s record, and we might see it happening against Afghanistan. And one thing is sure, if he scores big, South Africa will post a big total.
2. Temba Bavuma (c) :
Skipper Temba Bavuma is the weaker link in this batting line-up. He has scored only 122 runs in six innings, which sometimes puts pressure on the other batters. With knockouts coming up, he will be making sure that he can have some runs under his belt. So this game is very important for him to get into rhythm.
3. Rassie van der Dussen :
Rassie van der Dussen is another vital cog in this star-studded batting line-up. He is also in good form and has scored 366 runs with two hundreds already. Rassie is a player who likes to play long innings, and that’s what Afghanistan need to take care of because if he gets set, he will smash another hundred for his team.
4. Aiden Markram :
Aiden Markram is the backbone of the middle-order for South Africa. He has been in tremendous form in this tournament. Markram has scored 371 runs at an average and strike rate of 53.00 and 118.15, respectively, including a 49-ball ton. He is a very busy player and keeps up the run rate during his stay at the crease, which can put pressure on the opposition.
5. Heinrich Klaasen :
Heinrich Klaasen needs no introduction when it comes to hitting the ball out of the park. He is a brilliant player of spin and will be the biggest threat for Afghan spinners. Because he just needs a few overs to turn the game in South Africa’s favor. Klaasen has scored 316 runs at a strike rate of 144.29 with 17 sixes.
6. David Miller :
David Miller is South Africa’s most experienced batter in the line-up, and he can play in any situation. Ahmedabad is his home ground in IPL, and he has done pretty well at this venue, so South Africa will expect him to continue that form into this game. Miller has scored 231 runs so far at 127.62.
7. Marco Jansen :
Marco Jansen had an off day against India where he went for plenty of runs when Rohit Sharma attacked him in the powerplay and he went wicketless. But his numbers are pretty brilliant so far. Jansen has taken 17 wickets so far, and almost all those have come in the powerplay. Afghanistan rely heavily on their top-order, and if he can remove a few early wickets, South Africa will be on top.
8. Gerald Coetzee :
Gerald Coetzee is expected to replace Shamsi after the chinaman had a bad performance against India. Coetzee has been superb so far and has been among the wickets. He has taken 14 wickets so far in just six games at a strike rate of 19.07. He is a fiery character and adds spice to the game, and we might see his wild celebrations against Afghanistan.
9. Keshav Maharaj :
Keshav Maharaj gave nothing in his spell when other bowlers were hammered for runs against India. He has been superb in the middle overs and has done a great job of restricting the batters. Maharaj has taken 12 wickets at an economy rate of 4.65 and will get some help in Ahmedabad, which can make him more effective.
10. Kagiso Rabada :
Kagiso Rabada will be a threat that Afghanistan should be worried about more. He is the leader of the pack and has always picked up big wickets for his team. So far, he has taken 12 wickets at a decent economy rate of 4.97. Afghan batters have some issues with swing and pace, and Rabada can exploit that on Friday.

11. Lungi Ngidi :
Lungi Ngidi is the one bowler who is likely to get more help in Ahmedabad. Under light, he will swing and seam, and the surface here offers good bounce to the tall bowlers. Ngidi is a hit-the-deck-hard bowler who can trouble batters, and his team will be expecting a good spell from him on Friday.
