South Africa will face Australia in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final at the Lord’s.
As they prepare to play the reigning champions, Australia, in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final at Lord’s starting on June 11, South Africa’s red-ball comeback enters its most important phase to date.
The Proteas, led by Temba Bavuma, are committed to winning the ICC title after a 25-year absence and taking home the coveted WTC mace for the first time.
With a points percentage (PCT) of 69.44%, the Proteas led the WTC 2023–25 points table after winning eight of their twelve games, drawing one, and dropping just three. Their tenacity, flexibility, and strong home record characterized their path to the summit match.
On home turf, South Africa’s campaign started with a hotly contested 1-1 draw with India. The team’s momentum was momentarily halted by a 2-0 setback to New Zealand on the road, but they swiftly recovered with a 1-0 victory in the Caribbean.
After that, Bavuma’s team went on a rampage, defeating Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in back-to-back 2-0 series wins.
South Africa announce playing XI for WTC 2025 final vs Australia
The WTC 2025 final will be played from June 11 at the Lord’s. This will be the first time the two sides battle in a test match at the venue after 100 years. With a well-balanced combination of young talent and experience, South Africa have revealed their playing XI for the highly anticipated final.
Temba Bavuma, who provides leadership steadiness and poise in the middle order, will be the team’s captain. He is accompanied by Ryan Rickelton, who will be trying to make an impression at the biggest stage, and Aiden Markram, a trustworthy opener.
A lively batting lineup is ensured by the aggression in the middle from David Bedingham and Tristan Stubbs. Kyle Verreynne is responsible for wicket-keeping and has proven to be a reliable batsman behind the stumps.
Wiaan Mulder is a dynamic all-rounder who has joined the Proteas. His ability to contribute with the bat and the ball enhances the team’s depth.
The pace combo of Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi, who are both renowned for their ability to destroy batting orders, leads South Africa’s bowling attack, which is still very strong. Marco Jansen is an essential asset since he provides more pace and batting depth.
The seasoned Keshav Maharaj is the lone spinner in the South Africa XI, and in situations where turn can be advantageous, his ability to manage the game and capture crucial wickets will be crucial.
