List of South African batsmen to hit century on ODI cricket debut

The moment becomes even more memorable when a debuting batsman hits a century. Competition is high in countries like South Africa. So doing well on debut helps the player get in the limelight early on in his career.
On that note, let’s take a look at list of South African batsmen to slam a hundred on their ODI debuts.
List of South African batsmen to hit century on ODI cricket debut:
1. Colin Ingram – 124 vs Zimbabwe, 2010, Bloemfontein
Colin Ingram is the first South African batsman to score a century on his ODI debut. He achieved this feat against Zimbabwe in 2010 at Bloemfontein.
Batting at No. 3, Ingram scored 124 off 126 balls, hitting eight sixes and two fours and helping South Africa post a big total of 351 runs.
The Proteas won by 64 runs, and Ingram was named Player of the Match.
2. Temba Bavuma – 113 vs Ireland, 2016, Benoni
Temba Bavuma recorded a century on his ODI debut against Ireland in Benoni.
Bavuma’s 113 off 123 balls, which included 13 fours and a six and a 159-run opening stand with Quinton de Kock, led the visitors to a huge total of 354 runs.
South Africa won the game by 206 runs.
3. Reeza Hendricks – 102 vs Sri Lanka, 2018, Pallekele
Reeza Hendricks is next on the list for his 102-run knock on his ODI debut, which came against Sri Lanka in 2018 in Pallekele.
Coming in at No. 3, Hendricks took on the Sri Lankan bowlers and scored 102 runs off 89 balls, with eight fours and a six. His innings powered the visitors to 363/7 in 50 overs.
He was named Player of the Match for his contribution to South Africa’s 78-run win.
4. Matthew Breetzke – 150 vs New Zealand, 2025, Lahore
Matthew Breetzke is the latest to join this elite list. The 26-year-old made his ODI debut against New Zealand in Lahore in 2025 and impressed with a brilliant knock of 150 runs off 148 balls.
His innings, which included 11 fours and five sixes, helped South Africa post a competitive total of 304 runs while batting first.
