Virat Kohli scored his 53rd ODI century on Wednesday against South Africa.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have played statement knocks in the last few matches after returning from a four-month hiatus. Rohit scored a half-century and a century in Australia before adding another half-century to his tally against South Africa.
Virat Kohli scored consecutive centuries against South Africa in the first two ODIs in Ranchi and Raipur. He also registered an unbeaten half-century against Australia in Sydney. The duo has replied to the calls of their replacement with their bat.
Tim Southee believes only Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will decide their retirement timeline

“Kohli is arguably the best ever one-day batsman and if he is still performing, then why not? Rohit also scored a hundred a few days ago in Australia, so they are still performing. As long as they are contributing to the side, I believe age is only a number,” said Tim Southee in his media interaction.
The Kiwi legend understands the call of retirement should be left to Virat and Rohit, as he said:
“I guess that is their decision. If they feel like they can still do everything that is required to play at the highest level, then why not?”
“Like I mentioned, you have Virat Kohli, who is arguably the best ever one-day batsman to have played the game, and if he is available for the one-day World Cup, then I imagine the team will want him to play,” concluded Southee.
All eyes on Ro-Ko in Visakhapatnam
The spotlight will be back on two experienced campaigners as India take on South Africa in the series decider in Visakhapatnam. The Proteas levelled the series in Raipur with an astonishing run chase to shock the hosts. Aiden Markram and Matthew Breetzke’s decisive innings have pushed the series to the edge.
The team management and the fans will expect Rohit and Virat to show up in the high-stakes encounter. An ODI series loss after a whitewash in the test series will jolt the Indian team, raising questions about the future of Gautam Gambhir at the helm.
How much did Virat score in the second ODI against South Africa?
Virat Kohli scored 102 runs off 93 balls in the second ODI against South Africa.
When will India take on South Africa in the third ODI?
The Men in Blue will face the Proteas in the third ODI on December 6, 2025.
