R Sai Kishore will play for Team B alongside Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar and Rahul Chahar in the Duleep Trophy 2024-25.
India have a long test season coming up where they will face Bangladesh and New Zealand at home and will travel to Australia for a five-match series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The next assignment for India is a two-match test series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19.
Before that, most of the Indian players will return to action with the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024-25. This tournament will start on September 5 and will include four teams.
A few senior Indian players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravi Ashwin, and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested but others will feature in the first round of matches of the Duleep Trophy. The performances here could influence the selectors in picking players for the coming series.
Ahead of the Duleep Trophy, Tamil Nadu’s left-arm orthodox spinner R Sai Kishore has come up with a bold statement.
“I am one of the best spinners in India” – Sai Kishore ahead of Duleep Trophy 2024-25
R Sai Kishore, who is a key performer for Tamil Nadu at the domestic level, suffered a neck injury during the Indian Premier League this season. He completed his rehab and made his comeback in the TNPL 2024.
He then featured in the ongoing Buchi Babu Tournament. He will be in action for Team B in the Duleep Trophy 2024-25. There, R Sai Kishore will be playing alongside prominent Indian spinners Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar and Rahul Chahar.
Recently, in an interview with The New Indian Express, Kishore stated that he feels he is one of the best spinners in the country and that he’s ready to play test cricket for India.
He said, “I feel I am one of the best spinners in the country. Put me in a Test match, I am ready. So, I am not worried too much. Jadeja is there, I have never played alongside him. I have been with him in CSK, but never played together in red-ball format. So, it will be a good learning experience in terms of what he does. In saying that, I feel confident. So, I am ready more than ever.”
R Sai Kishore has impressive numbers at the domestic level. He has played 39 first-class games and taken 166 wickets at an average of 24.01, with ten five-wicket hauls. He is also handy with the bat and has three half-centuries to his name. The left-armer is quick through the air and doesn’t give time to the batters to line him up.
Some reports have hinted that top performers in the Duleep Trophy 2023-24 could be rewarded with a place in the squad for the Bangladesh test series.
