SRH made two major changes ahead of the IPL 2024

The Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise is gearing up for the IPL 2024 with a with a renewed leadership team. In a significant shake-up, the Orange Army has appointed Australian pace bowling maestro Pat Cummins as their new captain, replacing Aiden Markram who led the team last season.

Cummins, the current ODI World Cup-winning captain, brings a wealth of experience and leadership qualities to the SRH camp. His fiery pace bowling and strategic acumen will be invaluable assets for the team. This move comes after SRH secured Cummins for a whopping Rs 20.50 crore at the IPL 2024 mini-auction, making him the second-costliest player in cash rich league history.

The leadership revamp extends to the coaching staff as well. SRH announced the departure of Dale Steyn, who served as the bowling coach in IPL 2023. Steyn cited personal reasons for stepping down. Filling the shoes is former New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin.

Franklin, known for his left-arm pace bowling and clever cricketing mind, will take on the role of pace bowling coach for SRH. His experience coaching in various leagues worldwide will be instrumental in guiding the team’s bowling attack.

The Hyderabad-based franchise finished at the bottom of the table in the IPL 2023 tournament. Heinrich Klaasen was their top scorer amassing 448 runs in 12 matches, while veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the bowling attack, picking up 16 wickets in 14 matches in the 2023 edition.

In the upcoming IPL 2024 season, SRH will start their campaign against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on 23rd March. In the first phase of the prestigious tournament, the Hyderabad-based franchise will play a total of four matches, including two home and two away games.
