Sri Lanka have won only 2 out of their 7 league games played in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

In another embarrassing batting performance against team India, Sri Lanka were bowled out on just 55 runs at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. This was the third instance in 2023 where Sri Lanka got dismissed in a double-digit total against team India in ODIs, and twice they suffered more than 300 runs+ margin losses. This performance from Sri Lankan team came as a shock, as they couldn’t even put up a challenge in the game.

A heavy loss against India have dented their chances to qualify for the semi-finals in this edition. After Sri Lanka’s poor show in the tournament, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has called for an urgent and comprehensive response from the players about the poor show in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The cricket board and Sri Lankan fans are in shock after their team’s poor show in the mega event.

SLC asks for response from players and coaches  

In an official statement released by Sri Lanka Cricket, they have asked for a comprehensive response from players and coaches. As quoted in the press release, “Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has expressed its deep concern and disappointment over the performance of the Sri Lanka National Team during the ongoing World Cup 2023... In light of these concerns, SLC has called for an urgent and comprehensive explanation from the entire coaching staff and selectors."

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has asked the players and coach to explain the teams’ strategy, preparation, team selection, player performance, and post-match analysis of the game. SLC stated in its press release, “The organization aims to open a constructive dialogue to identify areas for improvement and ensure a more competitive showing in future matches.” The board has also raised several questions regarding their team’s preparation and planning.

Sri Lanka have won only 2 out of the 7 league games they have played in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. They are now left to play against Bangladesh and New Zealand to finish off their World Cup campaign. Sri Lanka won comprehensively against England but had a bit of a scare in their win against the in-experienced Netherlands. Sri Lanka lost to Afghanistan in the league-round game played at MCA Stadium in Pune.
