Dulip Samaraweera played 12 international matches for Sri Lanka from 1993 to 1995.

Former Sri Lanka cricketer Dulip Samaraweera has landed in hot waters with Cricket Australia (CA) after being alleged of misconduct towards a female player. CA has launched a probe against the 52-year-old, who was Victoria women’s cricket coach.

Dulip played seven tests and five ODIs for Sri Lanka from 1993 to 1995. He then took up coaching and moved to Australia, where he’s coached at various levels for more than a decade.

He was promoted to the role of the Victoria women’s head coach last year but departed after only two weeks amid allegations that he tried to bring his brother Thilan Samaraweera as batting coach, which violated Cricket Victoria’s conflict of interest policy.

He has also worked as an assistant coach of Melbourne Stars in the WBBL.

Dulip Samaraweera is under investigation for alleged misconduct towards a female player

Recently, The Herald Sun reported that Dulip Samaraweera is facing an investigation by Cricket Australia amid allegations of historic misconduct towards a female player.

Cricket Australia’s integrity department is looking into the situation and a code of conduct hearing would take place in due course.

‘Cricket Victoria are unable to comment on the proceedings as they are currently underway, we will make comment on the proceedings at the appropriate time,‘ Cricket Victoria chief Nick Cummins told the Herald Sun.

The 52-year-old Samaraweera was set to coach Australia A’s women’s team for their series against India A, but was forced to step down once the claims surfaced.

Andrew Christie, the Melbourne Renegades’ WBBL assistant coach, will take up the role for now.

It has also been learned that Samaraweera had a strong connection with the state’s top players, some of whom persisted that he stayed as the batting coach when he was removed last year.
