Sri Lanka to play as Qualifier 2 in the main draw of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, after winning the CWC Qualifiers.

Sri Lanka were the first team from the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers to qualify for the main draw of the World Cup to be held in India from October 5. And they added a feather to their journey by winning the final of the event as well, defeating fellow qualifiers Netherlands in a one sided affair.

1996 World Cup winners Sri Lanka have featured in all men's ODI World Cup editions, but this time they faced a scare of not qualifying for WC 2023 due to their poor performance in recent years.

Although they had a minor glitch against the Netherlands, Sri Lanka nevertheless defeated them in the WC 2023 Qualifier final to compete in the ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to take place in India later this year. Sri Lanka crushed opponents like Zimbabwe, Scotland, and Oman.

Sri Lanka and Netherlands met in the final of the tournament in Harare on July 9 and Sri Lanka posted 233 after batting first, thanks to 43 from Kusal Mendis and 57 from Sahan Arachchige. For Netherlands, four bowlers picked 2 wickets each.

In response, the Dutch team was bamboozled by Maheesh Theekshana (4/31) and Dilshan Madushanka (3/18), as they could only manage 105 runs in 23.3 overs to loose the summit clash by 128 runs.

The 2023 men's ODI World Cup will begin on October 5 in Ahmedabad, and matches will be held across ten venues, and culminate in the final - also in Ahmedabad - on November 19. The semi-finals will be held in Mumbai and Kolkata on November 15 and 16.

The 45 league matches and the three knockouts will be played in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune over a span of 46 days. The two semi-finals and the final will all have reserve days.
