Sri Lanka will play the opening game of ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 against India.

Sri Lanka Cricket has announced its Women’s squad for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 to be played in India and Sri Lanka. Veteran star Chamari Athapaththu has been named captain of the squad.

The ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 will get underway on September 30. In the tournament’s opening match in Guwahati, co-hosts Sri Lanka will play India. The coveted championship title will be up for grabs between eight teams. Australia is the defending champion.

Five stadiums will host the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. Sri Lanka has one stadium, R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, while India has four: ACA Stadium in Guwahati, Holkar Stadium in Indore, ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, and DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

The dates of the semi-finals are set for October 29 and 30. Depending on Pakistan’s advancement, either Guwahati or Colombo will host the first semi-final, while Navi Mumbai would host the second. If Pakistan qualifies, the final will take place in Colombo on November 2; if not, it will take place in Navi Mumbai.

Sri Lanka placed fifth in the Women’s ODI World Cups in 2013, which was their highest result to date. In 2000 and 2005, they also managed to finish in sixth place twice. The squad missed out on the 2022 competition after finishing seventh in 2017. Now, Sri Lanka will try to outperform their previous results.
