ICC recently lifted the suspension of Sri Lanka Cricket.

Sri Lanka are set to host the International Cricket Council (ICC) annual general meeting (AGM) in July, 2024. ICC recently lifted Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) suspension. Sri Lanka Cricket were suspended at the business end of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India due to political interreference. Sri Lankan side had a shocking campaign in the World Cup 2023 and they also missed out on the Champions Trophy 2025 qualification.

Sri Lanka Cricket will slowly get to normalcy after ICC had decided to lift their suspension just a few days ago. Sri Lanka’s sports minister Harin Fernando informed the press about ICC’s Annual General Meeting to be held in July. Sri Lanka also missed their chance to host ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2024 as it was originally scheduled on the Island nation but it was shifted to South Africa after ICC’s harsh decision.

ICC’s AGM on 19-22 July in Colombo

Sri Lanka sports minister Harin Fernando revealed the scheduled of ICC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and said, “Sri Lanka gets to host the ICC AGM from July 19-22 in Colombo. This will be a great boost for Sri Lanka with regards to cricket and tourism.” Sri Lanka’s tourism sector was also hit in last two years due to sever economic crisis and political unrest in the country.

ICC took suspension decision when Roshan Ranasinghe, the predecessor of Harin Fernando appointed an interim committee headed by Arjun Ranatunga in Sri Lanka Cricket alleging corruption charges. This was breach of ICC’s rules and regulations of managing administration in the cricketing board. ICC decided to suspend Sri Lanka Cricket in November.

Away from all political turmoil that went on for two months in Sri Lanka Cricket, their team are ready to take on Afghanistan in a test match. The one-off test between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will start from 2nd February at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will also take on each other in limited overs bilateral series as well. Both teams will play a three-match T20I and ODI series this month.
