Australia retained the Ashes series as it ended in 2-2 draw, Australia clean swept and kept the Ashes in 2021.

The recently concluded Ashes 2023 series was a fierce battle between Australia and England. Both teams fought with all their might against each other in the five-match test series. The battle was not only on the field but also off the field, with former cricketers getting into a fierce debate as there were a few controversial calls and incidents that prompted a tussle. After Jonny Bairstow’s controversial run-out, England’s coach Brandon McCullum said that he can’t imagine having a beer with the Australians anytime soon. Steve Smith has now opened up about the beer snub Australia got after the end of the 5th test.

Former Australian captain Steve Smith said, “We did knock on the door a couple of times. We were waiting around a while, and Stokesy came out at one point and said, ‘Two minutes, and about an hour passed. We thought we couldn’t keep sitting here. Are we going to have a beer or not? The guys got a bit fed up and decided it was time to go. It was unfortunate; it was the first time in my career that we’ve not had a drink with them after a series, and it was a bit of shame.” Steve Smith was talking to SEN Cricket when the incident was revealed.

Steve Smith’s revelation on England cricketers

Steve Smith also revealed that England cricketers were caught with a few Australians later in the night at a nightclub. He said, “They caught up with a few of the boys in the nightclub later on that night; I had gone home by that stage, but it was a shame to not have a beer and reflect on what was a pretty cool series.” Australia was leading 2-0 when the Bairstow controversy erupted and changed the momentum after that. England won two of the next three tests and equaled the series.

England captain Ben Stokes also reacted and said that England’s two finest players, Moeen Ali and Stuart Broad, were retiring from test cricket. Stuart Broad announced his retirement from test cricket on the third day of the final test. Stokes said that England were wrapping up multiple last-time events in the England dressing room. Australia also raised concern over a ball change that happened in the final test of the Ashes series.
