Steve Smith scored his 31st Test century in the ongoing ICC WTC final.
Former India captain Virat Kohli has dubbed Australian batter Steve Smith the best Test batsman of his generation. Kohli stated ahead of the World Test Championship Final that Smith’s consistency distinguishes him from other hitters in the last ten years in the Test format.
Kohli’s remarks came a day before the competition’s first day when he spoke to Star Sports.
India and Australia are clashing in the second World Test Championship (WTC 2023) final at the Oval in London, with the match getting underway on June 7, 2023. While Australia is appearing in their maiden WTC final, this is the second consecutive WTC final for the Indian team.
“According to me, Steve Smith is the best Test player of this generation. He has displayed that, his adaptability is absolutely brilliant. You take any cricketer of this generation,” Kohli said on Star Sports.
Coming into the WTC final, the 34-year-old Smith has scored 8792 runs from 96 Tests at an average of 59.80 with 30 hundreds and 37 fifties.
The consistency and impact with which he scores runs is impressive: Virat Kohli on Steve Smith
The 34-year-old Kohli, arguably the best all-format batter of this generation, has scored 8416 runs from 108 Tests at an average of 48.93 with the help of 28 hundreds and 28 fifties.
Meanwhile, he further complimented Steve Smith for his consistency with the bat and said: “Everybody knows his record, in 85-90 Tests, he has an average of 60 which is quite unbelievable. The consistency and impact with which he scores runs, I haven’t seen any Test player doing that in last 10 years. It is a credit to his skill and temperament.”
Steve Smith added another feather to his hat as he made 123 runs in the first innings for Australia completing his 31st Test century.
