Steve Smith opens up on suffering concussion after being hit by Jofra Archer during Ashes 2019

Steve Smith scored 774 runs in 4 Tests in the 2019 Ashes series after getting concussed.
Australia’s Steve Smith has detailed how he felt like he'd had "a dozen beers" after being floored by a Jofra Archer bouncer at Lord's on the last Ashes tour and receiving a serious concussion at Lord’s.
At Lord's, Archer, who was playing in his first Test match, produced a furious spell that featured short-pitched balls bowled with accuracy and pure pace. A calm-appearing Smith was struck in the back of the head by one of those deliveries.
Despite passing all of the concussion tests, Smith acknowledged that he didn't start feeling queasy until he got back on the pitch. Before going back into the batter's box, he underwent concussion tests.
The right-hander, meanwhile, couldn’t concentrate much since Chris Woakes dismissed him lbw for 92. Steve Smith admitted that it was a challenging time to get through and that he felt drunk for 30 minutes afterward.
Interestingly, Marnus Labuschagne made his Australia Test debut in the same match in the second innings as the first-ever concussion substitute, replacing Smith.
“Felt quite groggy, probably like I’d had a dozen beers” - Steve Smith on his concussion at the hands of Jofra Archer
On the Legend of the Ashes podcast, Smith revealed how he felt after getting hit on the back of the head by a Jofra Archer bouncer.
“It was a very difficult period to get through. I caught one on the arm and got away with a few pull shots that are top edge and a couple in the gaps. And then I copped one in the back of the head, which hurt a fair bit,” Steve Smith said.
“At that stage, I didn’t realize I was getting concussed. I went off and did all the tests, and passed all the tests. It wasn’t until I came back out. Half an hour after, when the adrenalin sort of went out of my system and I started to feel quite groggy, probably like I’d had a dozen beers, to be honest,” Steve Smith added.
However, Smith was back after missing one Test and hammered 774 runs in 4 Tests at an average of over 100.
