On fourth day of the second Ashes 2025-26 test at the Gabba in Brisbane, Australia skipper Steve Smith and England pacer Jofra Archer exchanged heated words. The fight started after Archer delivered a strong bouncer to Smith, and the video instantly went viral as fans posted it on social media.
Australia eventually won the day-night test by eight wickets, extending their series lead to 2-0. England started the fourth day on 134/6, behind by 43 runs, but Ben Stokes (50) and Will Jacks (41) enabled them to set a goal of 65. Archer started the over with a short ball outside off that Smith comfortably pulled to the boundary. The next delivery was a stinging bouncer that reached nearly 150 kph, and Smith attempted an uppercut but failed to connect.
After missing the shot, Smith said that he should have gone for four. Smith responded to Archer’s comment, stating that the pacer only bowls quickly “when nothing is happening.” The brief exchange added spice to the situation before Australia easily won the chase.
“You bowl faster when there’s nothing going on, champion,” Smith quipped, leaving Archer unimpressed.
