Former Australian Captain Steve Waugh has predicted the winner for the highly anticipated Ashes 2023 series.

Steve Waugh has expressed his views on the Ashes 2023. The Australian legend took to social media to share his views on the most-awaited series. He called the Ashes 2023 as a chance for players to write their own story.

“Money can’t buy history and tradition -the Ashes has and always will be special -it’s a chance for players to write their own story and be a part of the folklore and history of this great contest,” he said.

The veteran cricketer also had mentioned that Australia would win the series 3-2.

Steve Waugh predicts Alex Carey as the player of the series

In the same post, Steve Waugh made a bold prediction for the player of the series. He believes that the wicket-keeper Alex Carey will grab the award.

The Australian wicketkeeper looked in good touch in the recently concluded World Test Championship Final. He played a couple of crucial innings in the middle order to help Australia win the title at The Oval. Carey made 48 in the first innings and an unbeaten 66 in the second.

“This series will be special -player of the series Alex Carey," he said in the post.

He also made a prediction for the key battle in the series. Waugh added that Nathan Lyon vs Harry Brook would be the key battle and he believes that the experienced spinner will emerge as the winner in the battle.

"This series will be special -player of the series Alex Carey - score Australia 3- England 2. Key match up Lyon v Brook -Lyon to win that battle,” the post read.

Batting first, England opener Zak Crawley made 61 to kick off the innings. Later in the day, Joe Root made an unbeaten 118. Jonny Bairstow, who has returned to the team after injury, scored run-a-ball 78.

Harry Brook, batting at number 5, scored 32 runs before being dismissed by Nathan Lyon. England declared at 393/8 on Day 1. Australia made 14/0 in their 4 overs at the end of the day.
