Stuart Broad opined that Harry Brook doesn’t overcomplicate his batting.

Former England pacer Stuart Broad has lavished rich praises on young batter Harry Brook by comparing his playing style with Kevin Pietersen.

In the ongoing opening test in Manchester against Sri Lanka, vice-captain Brook played a vital 56-run knock off 73 balls. Brook’s innings came at a crucial time as the host lost four wickets, including the big wicket of Joe Root. His 56-run knock stabilized England’s innings as they went on to score 358 runs in their first innings.

A bit like Kevin Pietersen: Stuart Broad on Harry Brook

Former England pacer Broad said that Brook reminds him of Pietersen. Notably, Pietersen used to stand tall and played aggressively, more so against the best bowlers of the opposition to stamp his authority. Similarly in his short test career, Brook has played an aggressive brand of cricket and been a key member of the Bazball team.

“We had a really good summer when he came around the whole Test summer with us and I remember a net session at Harry and he had that amazing ability to hit that off-stump line through straight mid-wicket like really powerfully, a bit like Kevin Pietersen, stands up tall and hits well,” Broad told Sky Sports.

Broad further added that Brook doesn’t overcomplicate anything. He feels Brook could reach the heights of Joe Root.

“Jimmy and I played with him at Yorkshire and we walked out of the presser thinking he’s the next Root…When he came into the Test side, he doesn’t overcomplicate anything,” Broad added.

Brook’s rise in test cricket has been impressive. The youngster has played 15 matches and amassed 1378 runs at an impressive average of 59.91. The right-handed batter has notched up eight half-centuries and five centuries till now.
