Yuvraj Singh had hit Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over in ICC T20 World Cup 2007.

Former England cricket player and well-known match referee with the International Cricket Council (ICC), Chris Broad disclosed that his son Stuart Broad, the legendary England fast bowler, once dumped his gift—a jersey signed by India’s top batsman Yuvraj Singh—into the trash.

This came after India won ICC T20 World Cup 2007 and defeated England in one of the key games. Yuvraj Singh made matters worse in that game after Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir had decimated the England bowling attack.

Following a furious disagreement with Andree Flintoff, Yuvraj let loose on the youthful Stuart Broad, blasting him for six sixes in an over and reaching a fifty off 12 balls.

“Didn’t appreciate my gesture”- Chris Broad on gifting Stuart Broad with Yuvraj Singh’s jersey as Christmas present

To tease Stuart Broad after ICC T20 World Cup 2007, Chris Broad presented him with a signed jersey by none other than Yuvraj Singh as his Christmas gift. This was months after Singh had smashed a young Broad for the six sixes in an over, and Stuart’s reaction was expected as Chris revealed that he had thrown the gift into the bin.

“He didn’t appreciate my gesture after he was hit for six sixes by Yuvraj Singh. I got Yuvraj to sign an Indian shirt and gave it to him for Christmas. Apparently, he opened the present, saw it, and threw it in the bin. I think he had a bit of a sense of humor failure over that,” Chris Broad told The Telegraph.

With 604 wickets in 167 test matches, Broad retired last year as one of the all-time greats despite having a poor T20I record.

As an opening batsman himself, Chris bemoaned his son’s failure to realize his full batting ability, earning 3662 runs with one century at an average of just 18.03.

Even a humorous story about aiding Stuart with his batting problems was offered by his father Chris.

Once he asked me, out of the blue, early in the season, to go into the nets at Trent Bridge and throw him some balls, and we had an hour working together, and he went out and scored a few runs for England.

In the press, he said, ‘Yeah, it’s been great, and I’d like to thank Paul Farbrace for helping me with my batting.’ Hello? What about your good old dad? And I did mention it to him, and he said, ‘But politically, I’ve got to say the right thing.’ I’m sorry, no, you don’t. So that was a bit disappointing. But I did try; I did say to him, ‘I can help you with your batting.’ But he would go, ‘No, I’m not interested, Dad; I’m a bowler. I’m not a batsman’. I get that. But he could have been so much better,” Broad said.
