England’s Sue Redfern is the first ICC appointed female neutral umpire for bilateral series.

International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to name seven neutral female umpires to officiate the upcoming ICC Women’s Championship event. England’s Sue Redfern will become the first-ever female neutral umpire to officiate in Women’s cricket. She has been named as the first ever neutral umpire appointed by the ICC.

England’s Sue Redfern has been names as an umpire for the upcoming T20I series between Australia and South Africa women’s team. This series will begin on 27th January at Manuka Oval in Canberra. ICC has decided to name seven neutral umpires for the remaining ICC Women’s Championship. This decision has been taken to bring neutrality as well as encouraging growth of female umpires.

ICC’s general manager of cricket Wasim Khan has termed this decision as watershed moment in the women’s cricket. Wasim Khan said, “This is a watershed moment for Women’s cricket as we look at both implement a female match official pathway. programme and accelerate officiating opportunities for our very best performers.”

Sue Redfern has also reacted to the news and she is beaming with confidence. Redfern said, “It’s an honour to be named by the ICC as its first official female neutral umpire and I’m very excited about the upcoming series between Australia and South Africa. This is a defining moment for both women’s cricket and female cricket officials.”

The International cricket council (ICC) has decided to pick neutral umpires for the upcoming games based on merit. According to apex Cricket body, more and more neutral umpires will come forward. Sue Redfern has officiated in many World Cup games and known as one of the finest in the business. She has also played six test matches and 16 ODI games for England.
