India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, defeating New Zealand by four wickets.
India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the summit clash to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With this win, they clinched their third Champions Trophy title, becoming the most successful team in tournament’s history, surpassing Australia’s tally of two.
Drawn in Group A, India qualified for the semi-finals with three wins from three group-stage matches against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand. The Men in Blue then defeated Australia by four wickets in the semi-final.
Being asked to bowl first today, India displayed excellent control in the middle overs, limiting New Zealand to 251 runs. Spinners Varun Chakaravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav led the way, each picking up two wickets.
In reply, India got off to a great start, reaching the 100-run mark without losing a wicket in the 18th over. Eventual Player of the Match Rohit Sharma took on the aggressor’s role, smashing 76 off 83 balls.
New Zealand pulled things back in the middle overs, reducing India to 122/3. However, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya kept their composure to play small yet valuable knocks to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Ravindra Jadeja finished the game in the 49th over with a boundary off William O’Rourke to clinch the title for India.
India’s legendary opener, Sunil Gavaskar, celebrated the historic win by dancing like a kid during team India’s trophy celebration. Retired in 1987, Gavaskar has always been known for his passion for cricket. The heartwarming gesture of the 75-year-old is now going viral on social media.
