Sunil Gavaskar noted that many England players are not part of the IPL.
Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has revealed a key reason why Indian and England players are involved in so many confrontations. His statement came during third test of the five-match series between Indian Cricket Team and England Cricket Team, which is underway at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
In the last over of day three, the encounter witnessed a lot of drama on the field. After England opener Zak Crawley called for the team physio, Indian skipper Shubman Gill accused him of wasting time. The duo also had a verbal altercation on the field.
Some Indian players confronted Crawley over faking his injury. The visitors also clapped sarcastically when the England opener signaled towards the team physio. A few more altercations have taken place between some other players earlier as well.
Sunil Gavaskar reveals the reason behind confrontations between India and England players
Cricketer-turned-commentator Sunil Gavaskar blamed the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a key reason behind too many confrontations between India and England players. Gavaskar noted that many England players do not play in the league. Hence, they have not mixed with Indian players.
“There is a reason why this happened. That’s because not a lot of England players are competing in the IPL. That’s my thinking. From this England team Joe Root did not play, Ben Stokes did not play. What has happened with other teams is that a lot of their players are in the IPL. They have mixed with the Indian players, travelled with them. They shared changing room,” Sunil Gavaskar was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
“This is what I keep saying, before the IPL, there was lot of animosity, bordering on being brutal, between some players. That intensity is still there, like Archer bowling to Yashasvi. There is lot of confrontation between India and England players because they don’t play in the IPL,” he added.

Meanwhile, India piled up 387/10 in first innings with a century by KL Rahul. Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja also slammed crucial half-centuries as India matched England’s total. Earlier, the hosts also scored 387 runs in the first innings.
