Sunil Gavaskar slams BCCI for not making Yo-Yo test score public

'Player is not eligible for selection,' says former India captain Sunil Gavaskar.
Former Indian opening batter Sunil Gavaskar has slammed the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) stance on players' yo-yo test scores. The BCCI issued a warning to players about not revealing their yo-yo test scores in public. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli posted his story on Instagram with his yo-yo test score. Later on, BCCI took a stance to keep the score private and not to make it public. Sunil Gavaskar has criticised BCCI’s stance on this matter, as he thinks making scores public will bring transparency to this process.
Sunil Gavaskar slams BCCI
While talking about Yo-yo test scores, Sunil Gavaskar said, "If it is true that unless the minimum standard of the Yo-yo test is not met, then the player is not eligible for selection, then it’s all the more important for this test to be done in the public domain so that the public that follows the game in the millions knows that there are no players who have not met the minimum standard in the team." BCCI maintained its stand on this matter and claimed that the yo-yo test is ‘confidential information’. Shubman Gill also posted his Yo-Yo score, which was better than what Virat Kohli got.
Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar also feels that the difference between two players can vary due to various factors. Gavaskar said, "There was a lot of excitement when Kohli put out his Yo-yo score, which was more than the limit that the BCCI trainers had set. Shubman Gill posting an even better Yo-yo score than Virat was by no means one-upmanship. The age difference between the two mustn’t be forgotten, and the elder has to be admired for his fitness standard. The BCCI then directed that nobody should post their Yo-Yo test scores, which might actually save some blushes for some."
The yo-yo test has become an important factor in team India’s selection, and they have to go through a rigorous exercise to get into Indian cricket team. The inclusion of the yo-yo test has also increased the standard of fitness . Along with the yo-yo test, a dexa test is also included in the selection process for Indian cricket team players. Dexa is a bone scan test that detects bone density. Team India will be resuming their Asia Cup 2023 campaign against Pakistan on September 10 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
