Suresh Raina to take part in Lanka Premier League player auction, Sets base price at 50,000 USD

Suresh Raina retired from Indian cricket in September last year, Which makes him eligible to play in overseas leagues.

Indian T20 superstar Suresh Raina will be taking part in the upcoming Lanka Premier League player auction. The Auction is scheduled on 14th June with the upcoming season set to begin at the end of July from 30th July to 20th August. Known for his consistency in the limited overs format, Suresh Raina has set his base price at 50,000 US $. Mr. IPL will become the second player from India to take part in the Lanka Premier League. Irfan Pathan took part in the league in the 2020 season for Kandy Tuskers. Suresh Raina announced his retirement from all forms of the game in September 2022. 

Big names to take part in the Auction

Apart from Suresh Raina, there are other notable names as well who will be taking part in the player's auction on 14th June. As per a few media reports, Chris Lynn, Rassie van der Dussen, Tamim Iqbal, and Colin de Grandhomme are the other names taking part in the Lanka Premier League players auction. All these names have been successful in the T20 format and have been part of the various leagues around the world. Suresh Raina was not allowed to play in any other league apart from the IPL as he was associated with BCCI. No current Indian player is allowed to play in any other league anywhere in the World. 

After his retirement in September 2022, Raina was part of the Abu Dhabi T10 league for Deccan Gladiators which took place in December last year. The fourth season of the Lanka Premier League adopted the Indian Premier League’s method of player auction to make the team selection in the league more interesting. Total 5 teams take part in the league, LPL begin in the year 2020 and three seasons have been played so far. The upcoming 2023 season will be the 4th edition of the tournament. Jaffna Kings have won all three seasons of LPL.
