Surrey have lifted the County championship for second successive year.

Surrey are crowned county champions for the second successive year after Essex collapsed against Northamptonshire at Chelmsford. Essex were bundled out on 211, denying them an extra batting point and giving Surrey their second consecutive county championship title. Surrey became the first team after Yorkshire to retain the championship after the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Surrey are playing against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton. Essex were 20 points behind Surrey in the Division One championship, and they needed extra bonus points to overtake Surrey in the points table. Surrey needed just 5 extra points to consolidate their lead and win the County Championship for the 21st time in their history.
