Suryakumar Yadav gears up for the Asia Cup 2025, begins batting practice for the first time post his sports hernia surgery

India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has commenced batting practice after his successful surgery and is looking forward to leading the Men in Blue in the Asia Cup 2025. The right-handed batsman underwent a sports hernia surgery in his lower right abdomen in June.
After his successful surgery in Germany, Yadav commenced his rehabilitation process at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. Notably, the Mumbai cricketer also pulled out of the Duleep Trophy 2025-26 due to his rehabilitation.
He was expected to be part of the West Zone in the tournament, which will begin on August 28. Asia Cup 2025 will commence next month and will be played in the T20I format. Hence, Yadav is expected to lead the Indian Cricket Team in the tournament, which will observe a battle between eight teams.

On Friday, August 8, a photo of Yadav’s batting practice at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) went viral on social media. Have a look at the post below.
Notably, the right-handed batter showed a wonderful form in his last outing during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. With 717 runs in 16 games at an average of 65.18, he finished as the leading run-scorer for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the tournament.
At a strike rate of 167.91, Yadav hammered five fifties with a top knock of an unbeaten 73 runs. After Sai Sudharsan (759), the MI stalwart finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the season.

Meanwhile, the Asia Cup 2025 will commence on September 9. Indian players will travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the first week of next month. Indian selectors are expected to announce the squad for the tournament later this month.
India are part of Group A in the tournament and will face UAE in their opening game on September 10 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. They will later face Pakistan on September 14 and Oman on September 19. India are the defending champion of the tournament.
