Suryakumar Yadav-led India defeated Pakistan by six wickets in their Super Four clash of Asia Cup 2025.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav took a brutal dig at Pakistan Cricket Team after defeating them in the Super Four clash of Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday, September 21. The captain said that India vs Pakistan isn’t a big rivalry anymore due to India’s dominant head-to-head record against Pakistan in T20I cricket.

The Suryakumar Yadav-led side outplayed Pakistan by six wickets in their first match of Super Four round of Asia Cup 2025. After opting to bowl first, the Men in Blue restricted the opposition to 171/5. For Pakistan, opener Sahibzada Farhan (58) gave a quickfire start to the innings with his half-century.

However, Indian bowlers made a comeback in the second half to halt them from reaching a mammoth total. During the chase, openers Abhishek Sharma (74) and Shubman Gill (47) set the stage for India’s victory, with their partnership of 105 runs. Tilak Varma added unbeaten 30 runs as India chased down the target in 18.5 overs.

India vs Pakistan not a rivalry anymore: Suryakumar Yadav

During the post-match press conference, Suryakumar reckoned that India vs Pakistan games can’t be termed rivalry due to India’s strong record against Pakistan.

“I would like to say one thing on this question. I feel that you should stop asking this question on the rivalry. According to me, if two teams play 15-20 matches and if [head-to-head] it is 7-7 or 8-7, then that is called a rivalry. But 13-0, 10-1….I don’t know what the stats are. But this is not a rivalry anymore. But yeah, I feel we played better cricket than them,” he said.

Suryakumar, who got out for a duck in the match, feels that Shivam Dube’s spell was the turning point. Dube bagged two wickets for 33 runs across his quota of four overs in the game, taking crucial wickets of Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub.

“According to me, the turning point was in the first drinks in the first innings. People changed their body language after that. You always see the game changes generally after the powerplay,” he said.

“But today, the game changed after ten overs, when the bowlers changed their line and lengths, understood what was needed in that situation, and showed a little more energy. The spinners bowled well. And according to me, Shivam Dube’s spell, you can say that it was a turning point,” he added.

Meanwhile, India grab the top spot in Super Four points table with two points after victory against Pakistan. They will next clash with Bangladesh on September 24 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
