Suryakumar Yadav said he has never seen a champion team being denied the trophy.

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav came up with a strong response after Indian Cricket Team were denied Asia Cup 2025 trophy. The right-handed batsman said that they deserved to lift it as it was a hard-earned tournament win for them. His comments came after his side defeated Pakistan Cricket Team by five wickets in the final on Sunday (September 28) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.

Just after the game concluded, a controversy took place. Indian players refused to receive Asia Cup 2025 trophy and winners’ awards from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi, who also happens to be the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and also a minister in Pakistan’s government. With Indian players categorically refusing to take the trophy from him, the PCB chairman came up with a shambolic act, taking away the trophy with him.

Later, Indian players were seen celebrating their victory on the podium without a trophy. Suryakumar mimicked Rohit Sharma’s T20 World Cup 2024 celebration and lifted the imaginary trophy on the podium, drawing cheers from the teammates and fans in the stands.

During the post-match press conference, the Indian skipper said that he had never seen a champion team being denied the trophy. He also added that India deserved the trophy as it was a hard-earned one.

“This is one thing which I have never seen since I have started playing cricket, since I have started following cricket that a champion team is denied to get a trophy. That too a hard-earned one, it’s not like we got it easily”, he said.

“It was a hard-earned tournament. We were here since the 4th [September], played two back-to-back good games. I feel we deserved it. I can’t say anything more, I think I have summed it up really well, I can’t say anything more about it,” he further added.

The 35-year-old also added that they were not disappointed after the incident.

“We can’t say we were disappointed. But if you see, we had a lot of smiles on our faces as we were on the ground enjoying the moment on the podium,” the Indian skipper added.

After the victory, Suryakumar also announced that he will donate his earnings from Asia Cup 2025 to the Pahalgam terrorist attack victims and the Indian Armed Forces. In the final, the Men in Blue chased down a 147-run target by five wickets against Pakistan with a match-winning fifty by Tilak Varma (69*). The Men in Blue were unbeaten in the tournament, winning seven games in a row.
