Cricket was first played in 1900 Olympics in Paris.

Cricket has gained a lot of popularity in the last decade or so. The introduction of the various cricket leagues has helped this sport become the second-most-followed sport in the world. More than 100 countries are playing this sport. After football, cricket has become popular across the globe. Well, to make it even grander, this sport is all set to return to the Olympics now.

Cricket has been one of the oldest sports in history and became official in 1877. Over the decades, two other formats have been introduced in this sport that are being played in white-ball format. Recently, cricket was back in the Asian Games 2023, played in China, and after a wait of over a century, cricket will be back in the Olympics.

Cricket will be back in 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles after more than 120 years.

Cricket was part of the Olympics in 1900, which was played in Paris. That tournament had only two teams: Great Britain and the other from France, who fought for the medal. Britain won the gold while France ended with silver medal. But since then, this popular sport has not been featured in any edition of Olympics.

Notably, the coming edition will be held in Los Angeles in 2028, known as LA28. Cricket has now made its first entry after 128 years. Not just cricket; four other sports will be played for the first time in the Olympics. Baseball, softball, flag football, lacrosse, and squash with cricket were proposed for the LA28 Organizing Committee.

The decision was taken by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Mumbai at the 141st IOC Session on Monday. The sport will be played in T20 format, which is the shortest format of cricket. The IOC president, Thomas Back said, "officials had accepted a proposal by LA organisers for the game's established shortest format, which is T20 cricket, to be included as one of five new sports together with baseball/softball, flag football (non-contact American football), squash, and lacrosse."
