Nepal’s gritty effort against England was the highlight of the second day of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

The second day of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 was even more interesting than the opening day. It had three close games, which entertained the fans. The first game was played between New Zealand and Afghanistan in Chennai, which saw the Black Caps recording a five-wicket win.

Afghanistan fought hard and posted 182 in the first innings, with Gulbadin Naib scoring 63 off 35 balls. New Zealand had a tough start as they lost Finn Allen and Rachin Ravindra off consecutive balls. But Tim Seifert (65 off 42) and Glenn Phillips (42 off 25) played crucial knocks to seal the deal for the Black Caps.

In the second game, the cricket world almost witnessed one of the most dramatic upsets at Wankhede Stadium. The two-time champions, England, batted first and posted 184/7, with half-centuries from Jacob Bethell (55 off 35) and captain Harry Brook (53 off 32).

It was a par score, but Nepal fought very well. Dipendra Airee (44 off 29) and captain Rohit Paudel (39 off 34) added an 82-run stand to keep the hopes alive. Later, Lokesh Bam (39* off 20) almost pulled off a historic win for Nepal. But Sam Curran bowled an exceptional last over to defend 10 runs, and Nepal lost the game by just four runs.

In the third game of Day 2, Sri Lanka took on Ireland in Colombo. It was a low-scoring thriller, and the hosts managed to post a 20-run win. Sri Lanka batted first and scored 163/6 in the first innings. Kusal Mendis scored 56 off 44 balls, and Kamindu Mendis played a brilliant cameo of 44 off 19 balls.

Chasing the score, Ireland were in the game when Ross Adair (34 off 23) and Harry Tector (40 off 34) were on the crease. Ireland were at 105/2 in 14.1 overs but lost the momentum and got all out for 143 runs and lost the game.
