Australian batsmen have scored most individual double centuries (200) in test cricket.

Test cricket is the oldest format of the game, which came into existence in 1877. This is also the hardest format of the game because it requires more skills and temperament from a player to perform at this level. However, there are few champion players who have some amazing records in this format.

Scoring a hundred is a pretty special achievement, but converting it into a double ton is pretty rare. But this format has seen some players who like to score double tons more often. Overall, Sir Don Bradman holds the record of scoring most double centuries in test cricket (12). Here we will talk about the top ten teams that have hit most number of double centuries in test cricket. Only four teams have more than 50 double tons overall.

10. Zimbabwe :

Zimbabwe made their test debut in 1992 and played test cricket regularly in the early 2000s. But they don’t play regular test cricket anymore. Overall, they have played a total of 117 matches, and four Zimbabwean batters have scored a double century each. Dave Houghton scored the highest score for his country of 266 against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh made test debut in 2000 and became an active test-playing nation. Over the years, they have produced some big batting superstars in their country. Three Bangladesh batters have scored a double century: Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, and Mushfiqur Rahim. Rahim has scored three of the five individual double centuries for his country.

Known as the Rainbow Nation, South Africa were only the third team to play test cricket. They have been playing this format since 1889. Though South Africa are known for producing some excellent fast bowlers, some South African batters have also established themselves as the best in business. A total of 15 batters have scored a double ton for their country in test cricket. Overall, South African batsmen have scored 29 individual double centuries. Graeme Smith has five of those.

7. New Zealand :

New Zealand have been part of test cricket since 1930 and have played over 450 test matches. A number of Kiwi batters have scored multiple double centuries in test cricket. Kane Williamson has six double centuries at the moment. Overall, New Zealand have 33 individual double tons, and 18 Kiwi batters have achieved this feat.

Speaking of double centuries in test cricket, Kumar Sangakkara is the second-best on the all-time list. The southpaw retired with 11 double centuries in his career. Mahela Jayawardene (7) and Marvan Attapattu (6) also had multiple double tons under their belt. Overall, 14 Sri Lankan batters went past the 200-run mark, and Sri Lanka have 39 double centuries in test cricket.

The country that produced the likes of Javed Miandad, Younis Khan, Zaheer Abbas, and Mohammad Yousuf has some incredible history in the game. Pakistan have a total of 46 individual double centuries in test cricket. A total of 24 Pakistani batters reached this landmark in red-ball cricket, and Younis and Miandad scored six each.

4. West Indies :

West Indies were an unbeatable side during 1970s and 1980s. They had some fierce fast bowlers and some destructive batters, which turned them into the best team of that era. Brain Lara holds some unbeatable records in test cricket, including the 400 not out and nine double centuries. Overall, West Indies have 54 individual double centuries, scored by 30 different players.

3. India :

Team India are known for producing some incredible batting icons. Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid have scored multiple centuries, and a number of those were double tons. Overall, India have registered 55 individual double hundreds among 24 batters, and Virat has seven of those.

England are the one that introduced this game to the world back in 1877. There are countless legendary batters that have represented England over the years in test cricket. Until now, 37 English batters have crossed the 200-run mark in test cricket. Overall, England have 62 double centuries, with Wally Hammond hitting seven of those.

Australia are at the top of the list. In fact, they are the best team in this game, irrespective of the format. Men In Yellow have been a dominant team, with the most test wins and a number of other records. Australia have 78 individual double hundreds, with 38 batters achieving it. And guess what? Don Bradman scored 12 of those, which is the most in the history of longest format of the game.
