Only two teams have played more than five IPL finals.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) commenced in the year 2008 and has witnessed 18 editions so far. Over the years, seven IPL teams have earned the tag of champions in the tournament. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) have won the most titles with five trophies each in their kitty.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are the next on the list with three IPL trophies. Teams like Rajasthan Royals (RR), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Gujarat Titans (GT), and now defunct Deccan Chargers have won the trophy once. Interestingly, except for the Chargers, all other champion teams have also lost IPL finals at least once.

Notably, a few teams have reached the IPL finals in the past, but they failed to capture the trophy. Punjab Kings (PBKS), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC) and now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant are four teams who have played IPL finals but never got to lay their hands on the trophy. On that note, let’s look at the top eight teams that have played the IPL finals on most occasions.

Top 8 teams who have played most IPL finals:

8. Punjab Kings – 2

Punjab Kings, previously known as Kings XI Punjab, have been part of the league since the inaugural edition in 2008. They played their first IPL final in 2014, where they lost to KKR in the clash. Later, it took them 11 years to make it to the finals again, where they made it to the summit clash in 2025 edition.
