With to the military conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States escalating, the situation has led to airspace closures in the Middle East. This situation has affected the travel routes used by teams during the T20 World Cup 2026 tournament. ICC has put in place emergency travel and logistics to ensure safe travels for teams stuck in India.

1. West Indies

The West Indies Cricket announced their delayed return to their home countries after exiting the T20 World Cup 2026 competition due to international airspace closures caused by the Middle East conflicts.

The Caribbean nation failed to make it to the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2026 after a defeat to India in the Super 8. However, the cricket team were unable to travel back to their home country and are currently in Kolkata after playing their last Super 8 match. The West Indies Cricket is actively working to determine alternate arrangements to travel back to their home country.

“CWI is working closely with the International Cricket Council (ICC), relevant governmental authorities and airline partners to secure the earliest possible safe travel arrangements for the squad and support staff.

The safety and well-being of our players, coaches, and officials remain our highest priority.The team is currently accommodated in India and remains safe and well. We continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as confirmed travel arrangements are finalized,” the Cricket West Indies statement added.

2. Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe, too, are halted in India after their T20 World Cup exit with the team currently in Delhi. Zimbabwe Cricket announced that the team is currently waiting to hear from the ICC to determine alternate arrangements to travel back to their home country. The team was expected to depart to Harare in the early hours of Monday morning, but their tickets were cancelled due to the Israel-Iran war.

“Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) confirms that the Zimbabwe senior men’s team remains safe and well in India following the conclusion of their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. The squad was scheduled to return home via Dubai, but travel plans have been affected by the evolving situation in the Middle East, which has disrupted key transit routes,” a Zimbabwe Cricket statement read.

With teams like England and South Africa playing the semifinals, both teams are also likely to face travel issues if the war situation continues.
